Victorian Johnlock
Dec. 4th, 2018 07:03 amI have some that were suggested to me awhile back, so you can check that out, and there’s a lot on Alexx’s fic rec page (just search “Victorian”)!
Here’s what I do have bookmarked:
The Trial of Sherlock Holmes by jenna221b (G, 3,015 across 3 works || TAB!lock, Metafic / TJLC, , Victorian AU / 1895, Christmas, Sherlock’s Mind Palace, Oscar Wilde) – Scripts based on speculation that Sherlock will be put on trial in The Abominable Bride to parallel the Oscar Wilde Trials of 1895.
five times sherlock holmes lied to john watson (and one time he finally told the truth) by miss_frankenstein (G, 5,948 w. || TAB Compliant || Homophobia, Pining Sherlock, Oscar Wilde Trials, Happy Ending) – Set in “The Abominable Bride” universe, this piece adopts a familiar format to chronicle Sherlock’s quiet suffering in the wake of the 1895 Oscar Wilde trials and the particular way they affect his relationship with (and feelings for) John.
Johnlock Ficlet Collection by Irrevocably_Sherlocked (E, 11,505+ w. [WiP] | Random Ficlets, Pining, Angst, Fluff & Smut, Parentlock, AU’s, First Kiss, Character POV’s) - Just a collection of Johnlock ficlets, originally posted on my Tumblr page. (Chapter 10 is the Victorianlock)
In A Changing Age by allonsys_girl (E, 15,590 w. || Victorian AU, Virgin / Demi Sherlock, First Kiss / Time, Friends to Lovers, Love Confessions, Mild H/C) – Sherlock wakes up in the 19th century, with no idea how he got there.
The Curious Adventure of the Drs. Watson by ShinySherlock (M, 40,883 w. || BBC & ACD Fusion || Victorianlock, Time Travel / Magical Realism, Friends to Lovers, Love and Kissing, Romance, Body Swap) – What if ACD Watson and BBC Watson switched places… “Imposter!” Hands clenching the lapels of John’s coat, Holmes shoved him anew. “Yes!” John agreed, nodding, and then grimacing. “Sort of!”I do have a Victorian Johnlock list that I reblogged recently. For something subtle and atmospheric, I can single out . .
Masked Ball by Waid, 31 K teen. Victorian case fic, teen and up. Sherlock is back from the dead and he and John have reached a careful equilibrium between them when a stranger with an intriguing case comes to knock careful things aside.
Four Minor Interludes for the Solo Violin: by Katie Forsythe. ACD Canon. 27 k, adult. Wounded and traumatized by the Afghan War, John Watson falls in love with a detective who is also a remarkable violinist. Connected pieces of emotion and movement, all adult. 27,000 words.
Grit by earlybloomingparentheses, 5 k, mature. Early in the Holmes/Watson friendship, Watson tries to hide being gay from Holmes, but then of course runs into him at an exclusive gentleman’s club with an ex-boyfriend at his side.
Particular Peculiarity by saavik13, 43 k, mature. A lovely slow burn, case-fic heavy tale of Holmes and Watson investigating a blackmailer that seems ready to take down the entire gay male side of London. Once Watson discovers Sherlock’s true nature as an invert himself, thoughts he didn’t realize he had take root. A trip to the country for rest and time away from the Oscar Wilde trial brings a gorgeous new chapter to their friendship. Sexy and heart-warming at the end. Loved it.
The Greek Problem by candle_beck, 13 k, mature. Victorian RDJ verse. Lovely unraveling of Waton’s walls as he pines for his gorgeous, talented flatmate. There’s a nice mixing of ADC canon case fic, and the building relationship between our two lads. This author is a dab hand at Victorian idiom and practices – it makes for a very immersive world and a stunning read!
@alexxphoenix42, I just read Grit by earlybloomingparentheses, and I liked it so much, I read a few other of their fics, and I absolutely loved them. There’s a mix of Victorian, ACD, and BBC; I marked several of them to read, and am looking forward to it!
@ebparentheses, kudos to you.
Alexx, thanks for this rec list!
Oh hey! I just saw I was tagged in this–thanks so much for the rec and I’m so glad you like my stuff!! ACD is my favorite fic to write and I’m always happy when other people are into it too.
(Honestly also just being on the same rec list as Katie Forsythe makes me over the moon lol.)
ace-sherlock-holmes added: Okay, I read a really good Victorian!lock fanfic ages ago. It has a lot of prominent Mystrade in it, but the Johnlock in it is just as utterly delicious! And it is a well handled, slow burning romance like you asked for so… I looked back into my Ao3 history and here it is
It has 34 chapters and is literally so glorious I’m going to have to read it all over again
geekgirl1 reblogged and added: I highly, highly recommend Katie Forsythe!http://liquidfic.org/katie.html
She is known as wordstrings on AO3 but KF is the name she uses for her ACD fics.

unformerjohnlocker: My favorite victorian fic can be found here. Just try it, it’s so wonderful

Hi Lovely!
Hmmm, not that I recall; the only Victorian-esque fics I’ve read are here and here, so you can check those out. I think the CLOSEST fics that resemble this idea that I have read are The Curious Case of the Drs. Watson, In a Changing Age, and echoes through time.
Bartleby; or, The Reminiscence of John Watson M. D., late of The Dead Letter Office by a_different_equation: John Watson comes home from the war, gets a new job and meets Sherlock Holmes through Mike Stamford. Same tale since 1891, except this time it’s 2008, John is Sherlock’s boss, and they work together at the Dead Letter Office in London. The Game is Afoot! (22k, mature, WIP)
That’s… the plot, basically? Like, it’s a fix-it of BBC SHERLOCK before ‘A Study in Pink’ via a fusion of ACD (& some other adaptations/pastiches) and Melville’s famous short story. So, if/when your nonnie might be interested in soldier!John instead of vampires, then the fic is exactly what they ask for.
That’s how it starts aka Prologue:
I am a middle-aged man.
The nature of my employment, for the last decade, has brought me into more than ordinary contact with what would seem an interesting and somewhat singular set of men, of whom, of yet, nothing, at least that I know of, has even been written. I have known very many of them, professionally and privately, and, if I pleased, could relate divers histories, at which good-natured gentlemen might smile, and sentimental souls might weep.
But I waive the biographies of all other men, for a few passages in the life of Sherlock Holmes, who was the strangest (but best and wisest) man I have ever saw, or heard of.
However, let us begin, dear reader, with the beginning. “You shouldn’t theorize before you have all data”, as Holmes stated countless times. The story about Sherlock Holmes, and to some extent, of me, started many years before our first meeting.
Not sure if you can write more “Victorian-esque” ;) I hope the little self-promotion is okay, @inevitably-johnlocked ?!
And yes, because I realized that this is what your nonnie searched for but most readers find confusing: yes, set in 2008 — and Victorian language. It’s intentional (and the reason for it will be revealed in later chapters). So far, 15 chapters.
Ah!! Thank’s Lovely! Y’all are always welcome to shamelessly self promote yourself! I do it all the time :D
Ah, the vampires were just a mention of my own novels which I’m writing on for over three years by now. Thank you all, the fics are added to my to-read-list, I’m already on it. Thank you so much!

May I add a few?
@notjustamumj and I have a series, John And Sherlock’s Excellent Adventure, set in modern day. They realize they met many years before as children, but as their time together continues they realize their connection to the past versions of themselves through dreams. Lots and lots and LOTS of fluff. Some angst.
And notjustmom also has a gorgeous series, The Boys in Sussex. After Sherlock and John retire to Sussex, they come to realize there has never been a time when Holmes has not found his Watson.
Absolutely! Thank you Lovely!

ACD Canon:
AHHH I don’t read much ACD Johnlock; the closest are the ones where it’s either TAB!lock or fusion fics:
Green Carnation by glenien (T, 2,616 w. || Sherlock’s Mind Palace, Meta-Fic, Angst and Fluff, Communication, Post-TAB) – John takes Sherlock home. Part 1 of It’s No Longer Eighteen Ninety-Five
The Trial of Sherlock Holmes by jenna221b (G, 3,015 across 3 works || TAB!lock, Metafic / TJLC, Victorian AU / 1895, Christmas, Sherlock’s Mind Palace, Oscar Wilde) – Scripts based on speculation that Sherlock will be put on trial in The Abominable Bride to parallel the Oscar Wilde Trials of 1895.
Fine Print by mistyzeo (E, 4,224 w. || ACD Holmes || Est. Rel, Retirementlock, Glasses, Oral, Hand Jobs, Bees) – Holmes needs glasses, but he’s too much of a stubborn arse to go get his eyes checked. Watson is used to bullying him for his own good. The glasses have unexpected but not unwelcome consequences for everyone.
Times Two by WhimsicalEthnographies (E, 5,595 w. || Sherlock’s Mind Palace, Victorian John, Modern John, Sherlock has a Good Imagination, PWP, Bottomlock, Spitroasting) – “But you’re not that John…”“Of course I am,” John’s lips and mustache brush against Sherlock’s mouth as he talks. “All us Johns are that John, now. That John is in every room in your Palace.” He leans in for another messy kiss, tongue swirling all around the inside of Sherlock’s mouth. “In fact,” he moves to suck on the sensitive skin underneath Sherlock’s ear. “I think I hear him coming right now.”
five times sherlock holmes lied to john watson (and one time he finally told the truth) by miss_frankenstein (G, 5,948 w.
(there’s a chapter or two with Victorian Johnlock)
In A Changing Age by allonsys_girl (E, 15,590 w. || Victorian AU, Virgin / Demi Sherlock, First Kiss / Time, Friends to Lovers, Love Confessions, Mild H/C) – Sherlock wakes up in the 19th century, with no idea how he got there.
echoes through time by chellefic (E, 21,619 w. || First Time, Romance, ACD & BBC, Epistolary) – Mummy sends a trunk from the Holmes cottage in Sussex to 221B. Its contents alter the way John and Sherlock see themselves and one another.
“Sort of!”

Just gonna slide in and rec my fic The Blackmailed detective, now with 3 whole chapters! http://archiveofourown.org/works/13279617
Thanks Lovely!
I went through the first two pages of a search for ACD johnlock. I excluded Sherlock TV, not because I didn’t want to read TAB versions of victorianlock, but because it was just easier in order to filter out the modern day stuff.
I ended up adding a dozen fics to my Marked For Later (whee!), but all in all only found four that were from Sherlock’s POV:
This one I’d read and gave kudos, I just didn’t bookmark it:
A Bit of Scarlet by mistyzeo
These three I haven’t read, but plan to:
The Adventure of the Doctor’s Heart by mistyzeo
Tumble Homeward by mistyzeo
Bloody Cornwall by mistyzeo
I sense a theme, LOL. I guess mistyzeo is the go-to person for Holmes POV, though the author also writes from Watson’s POV.
As I said, I only went over the first two pages. If anyone wants to keep going and report back, you are welcome to.
redhair-n-handmedownrobe said: anything by @mistyzeo or @a-candle-for-sherlock ! They write the most excellent canon-era/inspired fics!
